SERVING UP HISTORY IN HONOR OF NATIONAL VOLLEYBALL DAY
We wanted to share a fun fact about the Greater Holyoke YMCA — the birthplace of volleyball!
Back in 1895, YMCA instructor William G. Morgan invented a new game called mintonette nearby at the Greater Holyoke YMCA. Designed as a less intense alternative to basketball, it quickly evolved into the sport we now know as volleyball — enjoyed by more than 800 million people around the world today.
